What do you make of the title, "The Hundred Foot Journey?"
I think it emphasizes the importance of the moment when Hassan moves from his family's restaurant and home to live and become a student with Madame Mallory in her restaurant which is literally 100 feet away. He, and many of the other characters in the book, make much longer journeys, but this small one is the most significant and pivotal in his life. It is a moment in the book where all the characters involved are forced to confront their own notions, prejudices and even jealousy, in order to do what is best.
Saw movie but not book. They always simplify things in the movie, but I agree with above. He had to take his own path.
